El Cacique [Colo Colo] established an alliance with Conexión Puma, ISA’s sustainability program, along with its technical allies, the Reforestemos Foundation and Basura Foundation. Thus, they will attempt to reduce their carbon footprint to zero by 2025.
Colo Colo’s players entered the field of the Monumental Stadium in a very particular way. The eleven ‘albos’ footballers emerged flanked by 30 trees, forming a striking pathway composed of Chilean wine palms and soapbark trees. This display was a reflection and symbol of the alliance between El Cacique and Conexión Puma, ISA’s sustainability program, along with its technical allies, the Reforestemos Foundation and Basura Foundation.
In this manner, the Macul team aims to set a new standard within Chilean football: sustainability. They aspire to become the first Chilean team to achieve carbon neutrality. Specifically, they aim to reduce their carbon footprint to zero by the year 2025.
As part of the alliance’s objectives, they also aim to reforest 200 native trees by the end of the year. Additionally, they intend to reach a quantity of 500 trees annually within two years. They also aim to recycle between 10 and 14 tons of waste for each match held at Colo Colo’s home venue.
Alliance Objectives
The alliance will enable a reduction in Colo Colo’s carbon footprint by an amount equivalent to 40 tons of CO₂ by 2025. This will have a positive impact on the health of both people and the planet. Consequently, the ‘albo’ team will become the first carbon-neutral club in our country, achieving this milestone precisely in the year of its centenary celebration.
It’s worth mentioning that last Wednesday, the club, along with ISA and both foundations, officially sealed the alliance. Players from the men’s and women’s teams were present at the kickoff. Esteban Pavez, Vicente Pizarro, Dahiana Bogarín, and Corina Clavijo planted trees at the entrance to the Monumental Stadium, specifically near Marathon Avenue.
The 30 urban tree specimens that formed a pathway this afternoon, welcoming the footballers onto the field, will be planted in an activity involving volunteers at Marathon Park, adjacent to the sports facility located in Macul.”
